Growing in a sheltered spot a few feet above the ground on a large pine stump, these tufts are each about a centimetre high, and they consist of little yellow spines, which are directed downwards.
Mucronella flava and M. calva have been reported from Britain. Although the colour of this specimen best fits M. flava, I am not certain which species is shown here.
