Walter Scott's birthplace memorial, Guthrie Street
Sculpted tablet near the birthplace of Walter Scott at the head of College Wynd. The Wynd provided the main access between the Cowgate and the early University buildings. The lower half still exists, but the upper half was replaced by the buildings of Chambers Street in the mid-19th century.
"I was born, as I believe, on 15th August 1771, in a house belonging to my father, at the head of the College Wynd. It was pulled down, with others, to make room for the northern front of the new College." -- Walter Scott
