Longford Pump
Longford Pump
Beside the London to Bath Turnpike (Bath Road) in Longford. Forget the aircraft landing or taking off every minute, let us go back to the days of the first horseless vehicles - steam traction engines. This pump is nearly 3 metres tall to enable the tanks of the engines to be filled. This and TQ0376 : Poyle Pump were kindly erected by the Colnbrook Turnpike Trust circa 1827 (see TQ0376 : Poyle Pump - 1992 inscription near the pump - the date of 1754 given on TQ0376 : Poyle Pump - inscription on the pump is too early).
