TQ1369 : Benn's Ait

taken 15 years ago, near to Hampton, Richmond Upon Thames, England

Benn's Ait
Benn's Ait
Although Benn's Ait looks like a pontoon, it is in fact an island - as can be seen from the solitary tree that still grows amongst the boats. It was formerly known as Church Eyot and Kember's Eyot and takes its present name from a boating business that once existed nearby. It is now used by Hampton Sailing Club and is reached by a hand-operated chain ferry. Taken from Benn's Alley, Hampton.
