Quarry workings, Stags Fell
Quarry workings, Stags Fell
The footpath along the south-west corner of this grid square follows a level track, sometimes on an embankment, and here in a cutting. It is probably the course of a 19th century tramway by which flags were taken from the quarries to the road, and from there to Hawes to be loaded on to trains for onward shipment.
