Dumbarton Rock: Prince of Wales Battery
[This is one of a linked series of articles about Dumbarton Rock. See the end of Link for a list of the reference works that are cited here in abbreviated form.]
Like the Duke of Argyll's Battery (see the previous item in this series), this battery was built in about 1795; it stands on the site of the earlier Round Battery. The plaque on the right-hand side gives another name, "Prince Regent's Battery"; both names refer to the future George IV. [OSG07, p5; HD, p74].
The large dark pit of NS4274 : Dumbuck Quarry is visible in the background, a little left of centre.
