Castles of Munster: Fantstown, Limerick (1)
This is a 5 storey 16c tower house, 56 feet in height, standing in a farmyard. There are bartizans containing rooms on both the NW and SE corners of the fourth storey, with fireplaces in the side walls of this and the third storey. The fifth storey also has a fireplace in the SW end wall. In 1583 the castle was held by Jason Fant who was probably the builder, and in 1666 held jointly by Captain Ponsonby and Lord Colloony.
