Southwark Cathedral - sword rest
This sword rest is displayed on the north wall of the North Transept. It formerly belonged to the church of St Olave, Southwark Link
. It is dated 1674 and is made of wood. The sword rests in other churches in the City of London are almost always of iron.
The Bridge House Link
, which was the administrative and maintenance centre of Old London Bridge, was located on the south bank of the River Thames, near the site of St Olave's. So, appropriately, on this sword rest we see the red cross with red sword in dexter chief of the City of London on the left and the blue Bridge Mark, the logo of Bridge House Estates on the right.
