Rearsby Bypass, Leicestershire
Rearsby Bypass, Leicestershire
Looking NE towards Melton. This new by-pass has re-routed the A607 away from the village of Rearsby. First planned in 1954 it was finally constructed in 2004 after concerted campaigning by the village residents seriously disrupted traffic in the village over a period of several years. The opening by the junior Transport Minister on the 14th December 2004 was disrupted by a different sort of demonstration; the date coincided with the banning of hunting in Parliament and the local Hunt blocked the new road preventing the cutting of the ribbon.
