SO8125 : Church of Saints Andrew and Bartholomew
taken 15 years ago, near to Ashleworth, Gloucestershire, England

Church of Saints Andrew and Bartholomew
Impressive church located some distance from Ashleworth village centre. The chancel is 13th century, but the oldest part is the Saxon herringbone stonework in the north wall. Also in the north wall is what appears to be a Saxon doorway, filled in to make room for a Norman door. Inside, is one of the earliest known examples of a royal coat of arms to be found in an English church. The arms include the initials ER and a Tudor rose, indicating either Edward VI or Elizabeth I.
