For many years this AA box has been a landmark on the A93 between Dinnet and Ballater. When last visited for Geograph in 2007 Link the box was "Needing a lick of paint". In 2009 it received it along with some TLC from a group of local volunteers. The restored box looks magnificent although it no longer contains a working telephone. The box now has its own website Link (Archive Link )
(Boxes were introduced by the Automobile Association in 1912 and were called sentry boxes. Their purpose was to give shelter to AA patrol men in bad weather. Later phones were installed in the boxes allowing members who had a key to ring for assistance.)
The footbridge over the River Dee at Cambus O'May was the gift in 1905 of a Mr Alexander Gordon, Southwood, Hildenborough, Kent. That house figures on Geograph as TQ5348 : Southwood - Scabharbour RoadTQ5348 : Southwood - Scabharbour Road Does anyone please know of the specific connection of that person with Royal Deeside?
