NO7048 : The Spectacle

taken 15 years ago, near to Ethie Mains, Angus, Scotland

The Spectacle
The Spectacle
One of the offshore rocks here is marked on maps as the Spectacle, which is an apt name for its shape, but no-one ever calls it that. It is known as the Horseshoe, which is also an apt name. It forms the second and third points of rock when seen from here. The rock is mainly lava, the Ethie Lavas of the Montrose Volcanic Formation, with small pockets of sedimentary rock.
