SUDS pond
This is a SUDS (or SuDS: Sustainable Drainage System) pond, part of a system for handling surface water run-off.
The pond was less than a year old when the photo was taken. It is intended to serve the Lomondgate development, which will include areas north and south of the dual carriageway on the eastern side of the River Leven; the pond is only metres from the river itself.
Although not shown in this view, the walkways that surround the pond are of permeable paving, the material being similar to that which is visible along the bottom edge of the photo: NS3976 : Paving surrounding SUDS pond.
The distant building, left of centre in the background, is a bottling plant at Kilmalid.

SUDS pond at Lomondgate
This SUDS ("Sustainable Drainage System") pond is located near the River Leven. It was created c.2008 in connection with the nearby Lomondgate mixed-use development, and it is surrounded by walkways of permeable paving. As of 2020, large-scale OS mapping labels it "Balancing Pond".
