NS4077 : Hut base associated with WWII gun emplacements

Hut base associated with WWII gun emplacements
The item of interest here is the lighter area of short grass in the foreground; the grass is shorter there because it is growing in thin soil on top of a concrete hut base.

Here, at NS 40029 77040, the outline of the hut base is quite clear. About 20 metres to the east and to the west of this one, there are similar remains which show some fragments of concrete, but which reveal the overall outline rather less clearly.

The large building in the background is a bottling plant (NS39747750) at Kilmalid.
WWII remains at Kilmalid
The structures at Kilmalid are associated with a Second World War Anti-Aircraft Battery; see LinkExternal link for Canmore's description of the site; that article includes aerial photographs of the gun emplacements, taken before they were cleared away during the construction of a roundabout. Remains (mostly hut bases) of the associated accommodation camp extended in an arc from about NS 3991 7694 to about NS 4405 7705, but they were later cleared to make way for a manufacturing plant (opened in 2012); see LinkExternal link for a map of the WWII remains that were visible when I visited.
Kilmalid bottling and blending plant :: NS3977
The blending plant built by Hiram Walker (Scotland) at Kilmalid, near Dumbarton, opened in 1977, and was said to be the most advanced in Europe. A few years later, a bottling plant was also built here; it went into operation in August 1982. Later, after various takeovers and mergers, the company operating the site was called Chivas Brothers (part of Pernod Ricard). Towards the end of 2016, Chivas Brothers announced that it was closing its operations at Paisley, but investing in an expansion of the Kilmalid site; jobs from Paisley were to be transferred there. It was intended that the expansion work at Kilmalid be completed in 2019.
