Beckton STP: Secondary Settling Tank
Beckton STP: Secondary Settling Tank
The effluent from the TQ4482 : Beckton STP: Activated Sludge Tank is pumped into these tanks. It contains a suspension of flocs, mainly of micro-organisms. These are allowed to settle to the bottom as secondary sludge. The supernatant flows into the circular channels. By now it is ready for discharge into the river TQ4581 : Beckton STP: Final Outflow of Effluent into the Thames. The sludge (together with the primary sludge) is taken to the TQ4582 : Beckton STP: Sludge Digestion Tank. Some of the sludge, however, is retained as a seed for the TQ4482 : Beckton STP: Activated Sludge Tank, to activate the process.
