Silo, Middleton Industrial Estate
Silo, Middleton Industrial Estate
This silo on the old Trimpell site (see SD4159 : Middleton Industrial Estate) was presumably used by ICI who produced fertilizer and explosives here.
It bears a strong resemblance to a phosphate storage silo on the old ICI site at Billingham (visible in NZ4720 : The A1046 road to Port Clarence), which is claimed to be the oldest of its type, and is a listed building.
The fertilizer plant closed in the 1980s and has been demolished.
