"Kirkby Stephen Market
Notice is hereby given
That by virtue & under the provisions of the charter granted by Edward III in the year of our Lord One Thousand Three Hundred and two, to George, Earl of Cumberland & his heirs the following regulations shall be enforced & the following tolls & stallages shall be taken in respect of stalls, stands, shows, auctions, or spaces occupied by persons, goods for sale or otherwise, in the markets of fairs of Kirkby Stephen.
1.. For every Person Standing or Walking exposing commodities of every kind for sale on Handbarrow or any Vehicle, not occupying and defined space, one Penny & upwards.
2.. For every Bushel (Customary Measure) of Potatoes exposed for Sale in the Market, One Toll-Dish full.
3.. For every Stall or Stand whereon the Owner exposes anything for Sale a Stallage Toll as follows, Viz, Four feet long or under 2d. & One Half Penny Per foot for every additional foot occupied.
4.. For each set of Hobby Horses, Swing Boats or Bicycles propelled by steam, Hand or Horse, One Shilling, or more according to space occupied.

8.. For every Bushel of potatoes exposed for sale by Persons residing within the Parish, the same amount of xxx as stipulated in Clause 2. Twice a year

10. For every Stall or Stand occupied by persons residing within the Parish, the amount of Tolls Twice a Year.
11. For every Basket of Poultry or Fruit, the sum of 1d per Basket, and the same amount of Toll Twice a Year for all Persons residing in the Parish.
At St Lukes Fair a penny for each beast sold, sixpence for each horse sold, fourpence for all sheep sold except rams which are 1d each, carts laden with merchandise pay a passage toll of 1d.
The Market Committee to Rule & Decide as to the size, position & fixing of Stall, Booth, Caravan, or Space occupied in the Market Place & in the Streets, & to have Full Control of all arrangements of said Market or whatsoever Kind they may be.
