Lighting Inside An Iron Age House
Lighting Inside An Iron Age House
Three types of light are visible inside this reconstructed Iron Age House. In the distance is the daylight entering from the doorway (facing away from the sea). In the middle is the peat fire; some daylight also enters through the hole in the roof where the smoke escapes. Close to, are 4 lamps with white clam shell reflectors. These lamps would have been fuelled by oil, probably from sea birds; today candles are used in the reconstruction.
