Bywell Castle
Bywell Castle
The big rectangular gatehouse tower was built early in the 15th C for Ralph Neville, the second Earl of Westmoreland. It faces S (ie towards the river) and was intended to be part of a large enclosure, which may never have been completed. {Pevsner}
