Ickham Oast House

Four round kiln oast house. Each vane depicts a different icon, flying ducks, a witch on broomstick, a horse and cart, and a horse and plough.

Grade II listed.

Oast House Cowls & Ventilators, close up

The cowl was fitted to the top of the kiln roof of an oast house. It pivoted with the wind to allow the hot air from the fired kiln below to be drawn through the hops and out through the top. Read more about cowls Link
