Brusselton Incline

The early alignment of the Stockton and Darlington Railway used rope-hauled inclined planes to avoid tunnelling to make the link between the Tees and the Wear valleys. An improved alignment, with tunnel, was built in the 1850s and the whole of the equipment of the Brusselton Incline was sold off in 1859.
