NY7441 : Upper South Tyne below Garrigill

taken 16 years ago, near to Garrigill, Cumbria, England

Upper South Tyne below Garrigill
Upper South Tyne below Garrigill
Taken from NY7441 : Footbridge over the South Tyne, this view looks upstream towards Garrigill. We had hoped to paddle the Upper South Tyne on the day the photograph was taken, as this had been a week of ridiculous rainfall. But, like most spate becks, the upper reaches from Tynehead drop off very quickly when the rain stops, and even this section from Garrigill was very much too low for paddling. At this level, the only option was a trip downstream from Alston.
