Upper South Tyne approaching Kirkside Wood
The Upper South Tyne meanders down through farm and woodland, providing a pleasant grade II paddle at the level seen here (perhaps as low as you'd really want to paddle it). The sweeping bend here provides shingle rapids with a few boulders to avoid or break out behind. Although the river had dropped off after very heavy rain during the week, the rain had started again as we paddled, promising higher levels for those paddling on the Sunday, and bringing poor light for action photography on our descent.
