The photo was taken during a heavy shower. The pond is shown on the map, and there were still some traces of paths around its edge.
When exploring it on foot, the character of Kilmahew Estate is very evident: it was once well-managed, but, when this picture was taken, was sinking into neglect following the closure of St Peter's College (a seminary), and the subsequent demolition of Kilhahew House, which was at the heart of the original estate. Later (by mid-2016), restoration work on the former seminary and the estate was underway.
