Although it has accommodation and is called a hotel, this is these days predominantly focussed on the pub side of its business, and is described as such by its owners, the renowned local brewery Arkells. It has been an Arkells house since it was opened in 1897. Although the building is basically Victorian, it has later additions. The pub is popular with locals, and on match days with supporters of Swindon Town Football Club, whose ground is immediately behind the pub. It has in the past preferred not to have away team fans as customers, and this may well still be the case.
