Small woods on the skyline and on hilltops are a common feature in the White Peak. Beech, ash and sycamore were first planted here about 150 years ago in a circular copse. The Peak District National Park Authority bought this land and some surrounding fields to mark the Millennium, and planted this larger circular woodland, and created the public footpath to a viewpoint previously inaccessible.
