Church of St Cuthbert, Beltingham
Church of St Cuthbert, Beltingham
This church was heavily altered in 1884, but the earlier building was probably built in the early 16th century. Many of the earlier features can still be seen, including carvings on the three Easter windows on the south side of the church, which includes a rabbit, flowers and a mask. A 12th century grave-slab can be seen built into the blocked doorway in the south wall. This indicates that there must have been an earlier church on the site. A large churchyard cross is 4m east of the church. Two Roman altars were found built into the base of this cross. This is a Grade I Listed Building protected by law.
