The slipways and the interior of the boathouse were reconstructed this year (2009) in order to accommodate the new Tamar class lifeboat 'City of London III', which is due to arrive in the near future. With the relief Tamar Class 'R.N.L.B. Edward and Barbara Prigmore' out on an exercise it is possible to see the new slipways and the tilting turntable on which the boat sits. The long slipway on the right is the launching slip and the one straight ahead is the recovery slip. The cradle in the foreground sits level when the boat is stored and tilts and turns to suit the selected slipway. The doors are opened to the position to allow the boat to be winched back into the boathouse.
