This fine "Monkey Puzzle" tree is in the midst of the main car park in Oakengates.
No doubt, it was planted as an small ornamental tree in someone's back garden. When the area was redeveloped the houses were demolished but, thankfully, the tree was retained.

(The origin of the popular English name Monkey-puzzle derives from its early cultivation in Britain in about 1850, when the species was still very rare in gardens and not widely known.
