NR8668 : Tairbeart (Tarbert)

taken 15 years ago, near to Tarbert, Argyll And Bute, Scotland

Tairbeart (Tarbert)
Tairbeart (Tarbert)
Tairbeart means Isthmus or piece of land between two bodies of water. Tarbert nestles around the head of East Loch, seen here. Approximately one mile south-west of the large church (top left) is the head of West Loch. The land between the two lochs is all that connects Kintyre to the mainland and is the reason why it is often referred to as 'The Mainland Island'.
