King Alfred Leisure Centre
Built towards the end of the 1930s with postwar extensions the centre has just survived demolition when the planning application involving a tower designed by Frank Gehry was withdrawn when the housing market collapsed at the start of the credit crunch last year. For now it remains open but it does need replacing with a more modern facility and another is plan will more than likely arise in the future. King's Esplanade is in the foreground and is covered with snow after 10cm fell overnight.
