The "Giant Grasshopper"
The "Giant Grasshopper"
This is the surviving one of two huge non-rotative grasshopper beam pumping engines used to drain the Mersey Rail Tunnel. It has now been restored, can be operated by hydraulic power and is marketed as the "Giant Grasshopper". The tunnel is about 200' straight down below the near end of this huge machine.
