Carrickkildavnet Castle, Achill Sound
Achill Sound separates Achill Island from mainland Mayo. Carrickkildavnet (also called Kildavnet) castle dates from the 1400's and has associations with the pirate queen Grace O'Malley (Granuaile). Close by is Achill lifeboat station opened in 1996. The lifeboat is a 14 metre Trent class named "Sam and Ada Moody". Corraun Hill (524 metres) dominates the background.
