NZ3671 : Fishermen's Institute As the owner of this photograph observes there few signs of the village's fishing heritage today, although some fishermen's cottages have been preserved. See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cullercoats . A sepia photographic postcard published by B.Graham of Whitley Bay however indicates that fishing was an active cottage industry here in 1911. It is of a 'fishgirl' standing by rocks near the coast with a creel strapped over her shoulders and a wicker basket over her arm, ready to go catch.
