Straw bee hive or skep at Packwood House
Alcoves in the South facing garden wall, were used to house straw bee hives or skeps. The alcoves are called bee boles and are listed on a register. Link (Archive Link )
This wrought-iron gate leads from the topiary garden to the house, and the alcove in the wall to its right is one of several that used to shelter straw bee-hives (aka skeps).
