The Rotunda, Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery
This building in Annetwell Street opened in 2001, along with the underground Millennium Gallery LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) . It contains a lift and steps to a subway under Castle Way dual carriageway, for pedestrian access to Carlisle Castle (right of railings - see NY3956 : Main gateway, Carlisle Castle .
The Rotunda was a compromise to the original Millennium scheme for this location (including some big glass pyramids), which was scrapped due to public protest.
