Blackfriars Court, Dispensary Lane
A modern block in keeping with its situation in full view from the Blackfriars Friary courtyard NZ2464 : Blackfriars panorama. Dispensary Lane is aptly named for its location close to the Friary which grew medicinal herbs in its garden. However, it was probably named for the Newcastle Town Dispensary which moved to a location nearby in 1790. Another medicinal connection is Galen House built on the Lane in 1901 which was used for manufacture of medicines, now converted into apartments.
