'Swans in flight', Civic Centre
A bronze statue above one of the Civic Centre's quadrangle pools by David Wynne, 1968. It is based on Hans Hartvig Seedorff Pederson's 'The Swans from the North', a Scandinavian poetic work with the five swans representing five Scandinavian countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Finland.

One of Newcastle upon Tyne's central landmarks, the Civic Centre was formally opened by His Majesty King Olav V of Norway on the 14th November 1968. The building is considered to be a modern classic of its time and is Grade II* listed.
