When the photo was taken, this fence, crossing a field in Kilmalid, was fairly new. The fence recedes in the direction of
NS4077 : Houses alongside Stirling Road; also visible in the background, in the left-hand side of the image, is
NS4077 : Electricity sub-station alongside Stirling Road. The houses and the electricity sub-station stand alongside Stirling Road.
The company Aggreko have been given planning permission to develop much of the area that lies between the photographer's position and Stirling Road. The wooded area to the left of the fence contains the remains (mostly hut bases) of an accommodation camp that was associated with Second World War gun emplacements (the emplacements themselves had already gone, as a consequence of the creation of a new roundabout).
This picture is therefore intended mainly to provide some geographical context for my photographs of the surviving structures, which are likely to be obliterated by the new development; I wished to examine and record those while they still existed. See
Link for a view of some of the accommodation camp remains.
