Ollie the Octopus at the Ocean Lab
A small octopus is the main attraction at the Ocean Lab's marine life exhibition. He (or she?) shares a tank with some small fish, several sea anemones and a couple of crabs, after having been caught by a local fisher in early January 2010, and is fed daily with fresh prawns and suchlike.

The octopus is a cephalopod and possesses many exceptional features: eight arms bearing suction cups for clinging, no skeleton but a beak for crushing and eating shellfish, the ability the produce a cloud of black ink to confuse predators, three hearts and a high intelligence. They are able to learn, remember, solve problems and play. In many countries they have protection from scientific expermentation without anaesthesia - including the UK where they are classed as 'honorary vertebrates' for that purpose.

These small octopi have short lives, around 6 months only, and it will be released back into the wild if it fails to thrive in the tank.
