This statue was unveiled in 1852 as a memorial to Sir Robert Peel former prime minister and founder of the modern police force who was born in nearby Ramsbottom. It stands in Market Place. Behind it in this photo is the Two Tubs Inn. The statue is Grade II-listed (Historic England List Entry Number: 1356807 LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) ).
