Lloyds Bank Chambers, Collingwood Street
Collingwood Street, named after Lord Collingwood, the hero of Trafalgar, was built by Newcastle Corporation in 1809 to link Cloth Market to Westgate Road and was largely occupied by banks at the end of the C19.

The Grade II Listed Building dates from 1890-91 and was designed by local architect, R.J. Johnson in a style known as Renaissance Italian.

It was originally the head office of the bankers, Hodgkin, Barnett, Pease, Spence & Co. Link

) who were strong supporters of industry on Tyneside and North Durham. They were taken over by Lloyds in 1903, and the Collingwood Street office was one of the largest branches in the country in the 1960's. Lloyds closed the branch many years ago, and Allied Irish Bank took over the building, but they also closed the branch, and the building is currently to let in 2013.
