Eno's Building, Collingwood Street
Eno's Building, Collingwood Street
Built in 1898 for James Crossley Eno (1827-1915), Newcastle inventor of Eno's Fruit Salts, which became one of the most well known proprietary medicines of the late 1800s and early 1900s. The product was spread world-wide by sailors and sea-captains as a relief from 'sea-sickness, fever and change of climate', from his factories in Newcastle's Groat Market and then New Cross, London. Eno's Fruit Salt is still being manufactured today by GlaxoSmithKline LinkExternal link
