The corner of Bigg Market and Grainger Street
This is the second gateway building to the west part of Grainger Street (to the right in the photo), which was developed from a muddy lane following Richard Grainger's death in 1861. The opposite gateway building is here NZ2464 : Corner of Newgate Street and Grainger Street
The building on this corner was designed by John Adams around 1871. The original dormers and balustrades have been removed and the four double-windowed dormers have been replaced by plain windows. The ground floor is modern and now occupied by Pizza Hut.
