Liverpool Canal Link - Princes Dock lock
This is the partly constructed canal link lock at the south-west end of Princes Dock. On the right the canal then disappears into a tunnel where it begins its journey through the Pier Head area. The red building on the left is the Crowne Plaza Hotel with the top of St Nicholas' spire above, and on the right is the iconic Liver Building.
Liverpool Canal Link Project
The Liverpool Canal Link is a £22 million pound project that has linked the Leeds-Liverpool Canal from Stanley Dock, via Princes Dock, to Salthouse Dock and the Albert Dock complex. It is 1.4 miles long and has involved creating new locks, and channels and tunnels past the Pier Head.
The new canal was officially opened on the 22 April 2009.
