From the churchyard of TQ9661 : The church in the orchard, Norton. Successful experiments to prove the existence of electric current were undertaken at this manor-house by its owner John Godfrey and his friend Stephen Gray in May 1729. Later the house was the home of Stephen Rumbold Lushington (1774-1868), a Government Minister.
