Sefton Park - the Eros fountain
Sefton Park - the Eros fountain
The Sefton Park Eros is a second copy of the original sculpture created for the London fountain. The London one was unveiled in 1893, and then in the 1920s George Audley of Liverpool commissioned another copy from the sculptor Alfred Gilbert. Eros is cast in aluminium and in 1991 the Sefton Park one was discovered to be in poor condition and so was removed and carefully cleaned. This original is now preserved in the National Conservation Centre, Liverpool. A copy has now been cast and in 2008 this copy was replaced on top of the restored bronze base - see SJ3787 : Sefton Park - a close up of Eros. The National Conservation website provides a lot of interesting information. LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )
