"Font, octagonal, of Purbeck marble, c. 1330-40 ... of about the same date the majestic stone font enclosure, also octagonal, with thin pinnacled buttresses, eight richly crocketed steep gables, battlemented openings around the sides, above a dado of blind gabled arches and fleurons. It once had a door on the east face to complete the enclosure. Inside a vault with eight radial ribs and eight ridge ribs. Big figural boss of a dragon and lion. In total it stands nearly 20 ft (7m) high." -
