NT2672 : The Innocent Railway Tunnel
taken 14 years ago, near to Edinburgh, Scotland
The Innocent Railway Tunnel
The western entrance to the tunnel, hidden in the middle of a town-housing development, which heads downhill and eastwards under a part of Holyrood Park. Now part of NCN 1 and a footpath, it was once part of one of the world's first railways, horse drawn, bringing coal from the Midlothian coalfields to the more prosperous parts of Edinburgh. The east portal can be seen as a white disc in the centre of the image.
