NZ5421 : Former British Steel Works
Hi Mick, i am an ex pat from new marske having left there when i was 22, now 45 and living in Reading and dont go up as i have no family left up there. However Your photographs are without exception the best i have ever seen of new marske and the surrounding areas and have brought some fantastic memories back to the fore. I have a question about the above image you have taken, this building was my first place of work (1978) it was the colliery arch plant on the grangetown works i was there for many a years, did you get any internals or did you take any more of this building, the brick building attached at the left end used to be at one point the combined staff block and foremans offices, above, until 1980ish and the new mess block opened and you can just see a clip of it far left new brick building. The foreman then got there offices back and i can vividly remember that the floor in the old building from over the years of dirty boots had a 2inch covering of hardened steel dust mixed with oil, oh what fond memories. another question is that i am coming up for a visit soon, can i get access to go onto this site easily, or is it a case of i need to trespass and be quick, as i would love to take more photos inside and out.
I have many more stories about the colliery arch plant as i am sure anyone who worked there does.
